A Core belief is an unconscious assumption. We make these assumptions about ourself, about others and the world around us. They are deeply ingrained and rigid and have been developed early on in life, through our life experiences.

Key influences to our core beliefs would be :

–  Through parents and caregivers.

– Our Environment and culture

–  Ourselves, trying to understand situations when we are younger, with a limited perspective.

All these key influences have an significant impact on what we believe.

A negative core belief has an impact on

To help change a core belief, we first need to identity what negative belief is held.

We then look at these thoughts through the CBT process.

We do this by examining evidence and challenge the beliefs, and through cognitive restructuring, replace and develop more balanced and realistic beliefs.
